Weddings are gorgeous events. They’re visibly beautiful with all the details and everyone looking their best. They’re romantic because two people are vowing to commit to each other for better or for worse. AND they are so much fun because everyone is happy and celebrating and your loved ones are near celebrating alongside you.

After months of planning, the best way to end a wedding day is with an awesome new spouse, a phenomenal bridal party, and a kick a** DJ. Nancy and Son didn’t hold anything back when it came to the reception. They enjoyed every minute along with all the guests.

I love it when a bride dances with her mom!

Hotel 71 | Part 3 | Nancy & Son

Nancy and Son’s ceremony and reception took place at Hotel 71. The view from this venue is absolutely breathtaking. I love Chicago and to have access to such a vista was an added bonus to their nuptials.

Hotel 71 Wedding | Part 2 | Nancy and Son

My priority for a wedding is to capture all that unfolds before the bride and groom on their wedding day. If I could clone myself, I would and there will be two of me at every event. Since science hasn’t caught up to my needs (how inconsiderate of them!), I am left with having to hire the best associates a photographer can find to help with the tasks of the day. In order for us to be successful in creating a comprehensive collection of photographs for our clients, we feel it’s important to have two of us there.

While I was with Nancy documenting her preparations, Otto was with the groom and his guys capturing the moments before the ceremony…

this is my favorite capture of the groom’s preparations.

I am so grateful for Otto, Maricel, and our team of associates who have had a hand at allowing us to be successful at capturing all of our couple’s weddings.

A very sincere thank you goes to Nancy and Son for allowing us to be there alongside them on their most special day.

Hotel 71 Wedding | Part One | Nancy and Son

Every girl needs her girls. To share secrets with. To dream about her wedding with. To have fun with. This post is dedicated to a bride and her girls, Toni, Tram, Tammy, Angela, and Erica. It was nice to see Nancy’s bridesmaids make a fuss over her, as every bride should be. There wasn’t a moment when Nancy was without a single one of them.

I couldn’t get enough of this dress. Nor the view from Hotel 71.

Patricia & Gaston | Chicago Wedding

Coincidence. It’s a fun word. I prefer SERENDIPITY: ORIGIN 1754: coined by Horace Walpole, suggested by The Three Princes of Serendip, the title of a fairy tale in which the heroes “were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of.” Making discoveries…of things we’re not in quest of. How is it that we find the loves in our lives? Serendipity. How wonderful is it when we meet someone only to realize through conversation, that we have so much in common? I love to make connections with people by the commonalities in our lives. It makes for a much easier conversation.

Paty and Gaston’s wedding was full of relationships that have formed via serendipity. They were surrounded by love and loved ones. There was a point in the evening when I felt that you could take a slice of the air and taste nothing but sweet love. Everyone was happy to see each other, happy for their reason to be there, happy to have been asked to share in their celebrations.

Paty & Gaston, thank you for allowing me into your family. Thank you for trusting me with documenting your love and the love shared within your families.

Flor Del Monte never fails to deliver gorgeous florals to their brides. This particular bouquet was made with extra special love and care.

After the ceremony, we went into a model airplane flying field for a few lovely photographs with the beautiful couple.

So much fun, then…

Not a dry eye in the house.

Modern Wing, The Art Institute of Chicago Engagement | Bijal & Parthiv

Happy Sunday people!! I know I’ve been MIA from this blog for a while, but it’s been a super awesome busy season and am just now catching up to being able to take a full deep breath.

For the next few days I’ll be posting a mix of engagement sessions, weddings, and family lifestyle sessions to keep you engaged for some time.

Today we have a super sweet, sexy, fun couple. Bijal and Parthiv. What I love about our time together during the engagement session is that we really get to know each other. It’s our time to get to know each other before the big day. Do you like kissing in public? Are you comfortable expressing your love vocally? Do you prefer to be on her left side? Do you laugh at my attempt at jokes? Do you blush easily? Are you emotional like me? Answering these questions (and many more) allow us to be much more successful on your wedding day.

Why | I do what I do.

Who am I? V. An emotional girl.

What do you do? You capture me with your story. I capture your story visually.

Why?

It’s an incredibly easy, yet difficult question to answer. I can go on and on about how much I enjoy what I do, but still doesn’t answer the why.

For the last few weeks, I have found myself…well, finding myself and coming to understand what moves me. Trying to truly identify what speaks to me. What captures my attention. What excites me. What evokes an emotion from me. What inspires me.

The thing I keep coming back to is…emotion. Emotions are honest. Emotions are genuine. Emotions are what move me.

When my clients show their emotions in front of me, it pushes me to be better, to do better for them. I want to capture their love for each other in an honest way that is true to who they are from an artistic perspective. Their enthusiasm, devotion, allegiance, excitement and fervor for each other are just a few of the emotions I want to capture.

If I can capture an image of my clients that evokes an emotion out of them, then I feel I have been successful. It’s their emotional response to the photographs that I take of them that is the reason as to Why…I do what I do.

I want our time together to help you reconnect and see each other for your Why. to pull you away from the mundane tasks of everyday to appreciate the wonderful person by your side. Disconnect from the planning and connect with the WHY all of this is happening. Let’s create something that is true to you.

People are what matter. Stories are what matter. That is the heart behind what I do.

Photography, uniquely you. genuinely you.

These unguarded moments can be captured for you not only on an engagement session, but also for every day appreciation. Anniversaries and birthdays are always a great time to celebrate the person you love. For the next several posts I will be featuring a few samples of how we can capture your Why for each other.

Kendra & Tarak | Millennium Park Engagement Session

During our initial conversation. Kendra expressed an interest in having both a winter and spring engagement session. Our first date was scheduled for February, but as the date approached, I noticed that it was the coldest day on the forecast of winter so far…-20F. I love my clients and I do my best to accommodate their every need, but this wasn’t a winter day, it was arctic. So we rescheduled for a date in the near future. It so happened that the forecast was looking better…low 40s for the week. balmy. But considering Chicago and our local meteorologists, it didn’t turn out to be as warm as expected. We pushed forward on the coldest day of the week…28F…relatively better than our initial date.

Kendra and Tarak were troopers with the wind and the chill in the air. Fortunately, there was plenty of lovin’ to keep them warm.

Thank you Kendra and Tarak for enduring the weather with extreme grace. I look forward to our Spring time together and your wedding at the Harold Washington Library.

Baby J | Art Institute of Chicago Family Lifestyle Photographer

I have been photographing Joshua since he was just a few days old and every three months ever since. For his 9 month session, we went out to the Art Institute of Chicago. We had a great time in the new modern wing. I loved photographing this adorable little boy lit by natural light and surrounded by clean lines and open space.

There’s something about this couple just entering the frame that I like a lot.

I love what I do. Especially when I get to work with a family that trusts me to be creative with our space and with their precious little boy.
Even if it means laying him on the middle of a public floor.

Wait. I’m not ready for my close-up.

Gosh, those eyes!! Watch out ladies, this one is destined to break a few hearts!!

During each family session, I like to pull the parents away for a bit to take a few shots of them alone. I <3 this.
